Fibro Marathon for FM Awareness

Hazel Borland of Fibro PaIN support group is hoping to raise some funds and awareness of fibromyalgia and FMA UK for International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day on Sat 12th May, and had this to say:

I plan on doing a marathon but this wont be a 26 mile run - what I am doing is a FIBRO-MARATHON- a 26 minute walk !!!

The walk will take place at the Heads of Ayr Farm Park - and I will be walking round the main area of the park without sitting down for a rest. Now, I appreciate that many people will think that 26 minutes walk is not much ... but for a person with fibromyalgia; a 26 minute walk can feel like running a marathon ... and the resulting muscle pain, weakness and fatigue that follows can be worse than a marathon-runner would endure at the end of a race.

In the past year, my walking has deteriorated severely, due to extreme cramping pains in my calves ... and I struggle to walk for 5-10 minutes before pain & fatigue makes me stop. So walking for 26 minutes (and it will be timed exactly on my phone), will take a lot of effort

Hazel has set up a Just Giving page, and anyone wishing to sponsor her and help her to raise money for FMA UK can visit
