ImageBrighton and Hove Primary Care Trust have been providing a rolling programme of Expert Patients Programme, Living Well courses for over five years. The free courses are for people who live with any long term health condition and aims to equip participants with the tools and skills to better manage their condition.

This year is particularly exciting as we are launching a new course specifically for people living with day to day persistent pain.

The course is an adaptation of the Living Well course and is called the Persistent Pain Programme. Topics covered include:

•    Overcoming common misconceptions, fears & beliefs about pain
•    Pacing daily activities
•    Stretching & exercise techniques – where to begin
•    Dealing with set backs
•    Over activity/under activity cycle
•    Keeping a pain diary and tracking your progress
•    Problem Solving

The programme is run over six weekly sessions each lasting three hours and is delivered by trained tutors who themselves live with persistent pain and have become good pain self managers. The course is also accompanied by a comprehensive and easy to follow illustrated hand book.

The first course in Brighton is taking place on 20th May and places are still available.
