The British London 10K Run

Articles - Fundraising

Last Updated on Saturday, 21 January 2012 23:18 Written by Pam Stewart Saturday, 07 January 2012 15:02

British10kThe 12th anniversary of the British London 10k run is scheduled to take place on Sunday 8th July just 19 days before the Olympic opening ceremony and using much of the course for the Olympic marathons.

FMA UK has places available in this prestigious event, giving an exciting opportunity to raise awareness of fibromyalgia as well as raising funds through sponsorship.

Last year I decided to give this a go. I had never done any long distance running before so didn't commit to this until I knew I could manage it. I downloaded a training programme from the Running Bug which worked really well. I surprised myself and increased my fitness considerably.

I now enjoy jogging (I wouldn't call my speed running) and am thinking about a half marathon for this year.

The Risk on X-Factor

Articles - Fundraising

You may or may not remember a couple of weeks ago; there was an article about a young lad by the name of Charlie Healy who is currently on Xfactor. We also wrote a piece about a charity event that took place on September 3rd in Coventry at the Coventry City Supporters Club, which was held by Carl Long.

Carl’s partner Kirsty is a sufferer of Fibromyalgia so it is pretty close to home for the pair as Carl and Charlie are very good friends, during the charity night the pair spoke about raising awareness and the idea came about that Charlie wanted to wear the Fibro awareness bands on the Xfactor, which he did so with his group The Keys, the wrist bands where seen by over 11.5 million viewers on the Saturday and then again on the Sunday.

My Fundraising Chest Wax!

Articles - Fundraising

Last Updated on Thursday, 24 November 2011 10:47 Written by Mark Cowdell Monday, 31 October 2011 15:27

On the 17th September 2011, I completed the challenge of having all my chest hair waxed off! A family member agreed to do the waxing for me and ensured that I went through as much pain as possible. I went from having a carpet of hair on my chest and stomach to being totally bald and feeling quite raw from pain in the matter of 30–40 minutes.

The reason I did this challenge was two-fold, firstly it was to say that my wife, Natalie, puts up with constant pain from FM and ME and I was willing to go through a short amount of pain to walk in her shoes for a short time and raise awareness about the pain that she goes through. Secondly, I wanted to raise money and awareness of the great work that the charities FMA UK and MEA do for sufferers and their families.

Dominic Roncaglione

We had a fantastic day and the abseil went really well. We raised over a £1000 for the Northern Ireland fibro group. I had the pleasure of organising it all, but it was my friends Joanne Brown, Paula Scott, Dominic Roncaglione and my sister in law, Barbara Stevenson and husband Simon Hamilton that did it. It was a beautiful sunny day and they all loved helping our cause.

9 Reasons to Bring Adventure Into Your Life...

Articles - Fundraising

Last Updated on Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:43 Written by Kathy Longley Friday, 02 September 2011 19:48

Bridie NelsonDoing a sponsored abseil for a charity is becoming a popular choice for many people, simply because it can raise a lot more cash than a table top sale of cupcakes! However, for quite a few, fear gets in the way and stops them from having a go. This is where Bridie Nelson can really help, because unlike an organised ‘off the peg’ abseil, she can take the time to fully prepare you for the event, well in advance and not just on the big day.

So if you feel that you’d like to give it a go but are too scared, let her be your safety net, your cushion – even if it means that she does an abseil right by your side – once you fully commit to doing it, she won’t let you fail...........Bridie knows all too well the life-changing impact of embarking on an adventure and has written an ebook on the 9 reasons to bring adventure into your life.......

Welcome to the 9 reasons to bring adventure into your life. I found ‘adventure’ (well, abseiling to be precise) at the age of 29. I’d been stuck in an abusive, domineering relationship since I was 19. I was a jam making, cake baking, stay at home mum of two young children and I freely admit that I was slowly going out of my mind.
