Media Appearances for after Awareness Week PDF Print E-mail

This week we have a couple of radio appearances that you may want to listen into.We have already had 2 appearances on BBC local radio on Monday 15th and you can find details of others below. We will add more information when we can.

Awareness Week 2008 Events PDF Print E-mail

Awareness week 2008Support Groups around the country are working with FMA UK to raise awareness through various means. Anything from broadcasting on community radio to organising a coffee morning and inviting the local MP along, as well as tombola's and having awareness stands in a shopping mall.

Awareness Week 2008 is between the 8th  and 14th of September and in the following section you can check what's going on around the country. If you know of anything that should be added here then please let us know using this form.

Awareness week 2008Fibromyalgia Friends Scotland(FFS) will have an information display stand at Braehead Shopping Centre after Fibromyalgia Awareness Week on Tuesday the 16th September and everyone is welcome to come along.
 
Blackpool Group raise money PDF Print E-mail

Awareness week 2008Well done to My Blackpool Group. Yesterday I was invited to Blackpool Town Hall, I met the Mayor Councillor Mary Smith and the Mayoress Julia Massey. Local MP Joan Humble came and presented the group with a cheque for £150.00. It was an informal gathering in wonderful surroundings and I really enjoyed meeting all the committee, members and visitors who supported the Awareness Day.

We all know what hard work raising both Awareness and money but this is an excellent team who made me feel very welcome. The sun shone and there were plenty of yellow and black ribbons in Blackpool. These sorts of events make my job worthwhile.

Running the Bristol Half Marathon for FMA UK PDF Print E-mail

ImageOn Sunday 14th September, Kathryn Smith and her sister in law Jess McManus will be running the Bristol half marathon in aid of FMA UK. North Somerset Group members will be in Bristol city centre displaying a banner for fibromylagia, and will be distributing leaflets.

A Fibromyalgia case study PDF Print E-mail

Released for Fibromyalgia National Awareness Week (8th – 14th September 2008)

Sue Strafford-Binks has suffered with Fibromyalgia for over 17 years. She waited nearly three years for a diagnosis after the trauma of an ectopic pregnancy, followed closely by a tumour on her thyroid gland, left her feeling chronically tired all of the time and her body muscles constantly aching like she had the ‘flu.

Bianca Embley will be appearing on 5 News Sept 10th PDF Print E-mail

Bianca Embley of PolkaDotGals will be appearing on Five news this evening on the 5pm show. She will be promoting awareness of fibromyalgia so please tune in and watch. This will be a user submitted clip that will feature towards the end of the news programme.

FMA UK and PolkaDotGals are working together to help promote awareness of fibromyalgia and we hope to making another announcement very shortly.

Running For Charity PDF Print E-mail
Lisa Knowles has found that there are people willing to give their all in a bid to raise funds and awareness. Her husbands manager at Knowlesy Council Licensing section is about to run a 10K race on October 5th in aid of FMA UK. Ian Rushton has run marathons before and, after being contacted by Lisa, agreed to run the Liverpool 10K ASICS race.

Lisa has placed collection tins around the area with local businesses and plans to contact her local paper to drum up a bit of extra publicity and is doing her all to bring fibromyalgia to the fore. 

FMA UK would like to wish Lisa and Ian luck and thank them for their valiant efforts.

 
Derby based Coffee morning PDF Print E-mail
Awareness week 2008For Awareness week we are holding a coffee morning at the Mayor of Derby will be attending along with some local counsellors. They will get the opportunity to meet members of Derby Fibromyalgia Support Group and talk to them which will help with raising awareness, and who can hopefully carry our queries to others and the government.
