I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1994 but, like a lot of sufferers, once I had the diagnosis and wasn’t just ‘imagining it’ I was able to trace it back to most of my adult life.
I have been involved with the Reading Fibromyalgia Support Group since its formation in 1994 and with the Wokingham Fibromyalgia Support Group since its formation in 2007.
In February 2003 I became a Trustee but had to resign in June 2004 for personal reasons. I was invited to rejoin the board in May 2007 and also took on the roles of APPG Co-ordinator and FMA UK MAB Co-ordinator.
Working with FMA UK is a rewarding activity and keeps my mind off my health problems. I have met a fantastic group of fellow sufferers all working towards the same aim – to help fellow sufferers and those who are newly diagnosed to come to terms with this life altering condition and realise they are not alone.
My grandchildren learned at an early age that Nana isn’t like other grandmothers as I can’t do physical activities with them but we have tremendous fun making handmade cards and it’s great to have little ones who can reach to undo my shoes easier than I can! |
