Walking the London Loop

london-loop-publicityx200Pam Stewart, chair of Fibromyalgia Association UK (FMA UK), has recently moved back to Whitton and on one of her Sunday walks noticed the London Loop symbol in Crane Park.  She found the details on the website and gave herself the challenge of walking the whole of this interconnection of 150 miles of pathways on consecutive days to raise awareness of fibromyalgia.

Pam’s husband had fibromyalgia for many years and found first of all that it took years to get a diagnosis and then treatment was not very effective.  Information and support were not readily available and many professionals did not even believe it existed.

Over the years the fibromyalgia community has grown, with over 150 support groups around the country.  Awareness amongst professionals is much improved although understanding is still patchy.  Effective treatment is still difficult to obtain.

At present there are only 2 support groups in the Greater London area and it is hoped that by raising awareness with the London Loop Walk people can be put into contact with others in their area for support and understanding.

fsi-mini2010The Great Big small Charity Car Draw

For small charities, fundraising events can consume time and resources that would otherwise be directed to that charity’s beneficiaries, yet that fundraising income is much-needed to ensure the continued delivery of services.  To confront this problem the FSI launched The Great Big small Charity Car Draw in 2009 to take the hard work out of fundraising events and support charities right across the UK.  Thanks to the support of Zurich Insurance and the FSI trustees, the Draw is back in 2010.

It’s a lottery for supporters of small charities (and the public) to Buy Tickets to support their cause with the chance to win a funky MINI First. FMA UK has come on board with the FSI’s Car Draw and is raising funds to support our work throughout the UK.  The proceeds of the Draw will be used to raise awareness of fibromyalgia with medical professionals, government and the general public. Change: Shelly's story of her fm and her music

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Shelly has just released her new six song EP “Change” on the 16th November. As a singer-songwriter she is well accustomed to change and the challenges associated with creating this labour of love. She has managed this excellent achievement while battling with fibromyalgia. Shelly mentions that her

"lyrics were inspired by events in my life that became difficult to handle on top of having FMS.  I felt like I literally had no fuel to keep going, something would perk me up, but only for a while."

As well as giving us some inspiring lyrics, Shelly has generously decided to donate the title track's proceeds to FMA UK. You can preview some of the tracks here and buy a copy from here. Her full story features in a February's issue of Fibromyalgia Focus.

Annual Raffle

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Thank you to everyone who bought and sold tickets for our annual raffle.  Without raising funds through this we would not be able to do the support and awareness raising that is so desperately needed.

The first prize of a stay in Malta was won by Mrs Minifey, whose son Roy belongs to the Bridgend support group.  She is going to give this to one of the family as her and her husband are unable to go.  We hope they enjoy this beautiful, warm and friendly island.
