Video about ENFA and the written declaration

Following on from the success of achieving the recent written declaration at the European Parliament, FMA UK has the pleasure in sharing with you a video from ENFA. This short film shows some of what was involved in achieving the declaration as well as a little background on ENFA.

MEP's adopt written declaration 69/2008 on fibromyalgia

ENfa group on the steps Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) adopt written declaration 69/2008 on fibromyalgia initiated by five deputies and the European Network of Fibromyalgia Associations (ENFA).

Brussels (16.12.2008) – The Written Declaration 69/2008 on fibromyalgia has been a achieved in the European Parliament by obtaining the required amount of signatories (393 deputies) giving their support. The Written Declaration was initiated by five MEPs active on health at the European Parliament: Mr. Adamou, Ms. Brepoels, Ms. Dičkuté, Mr. Popa and Ms. Sinnott. These MEPs decided to launch the declaration during the celebratory meeting of the 1st European Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in May 2008, organized by ENFA

The Written Declaration is calling for the European Union to recognize fibromyalgia in Europe as a disease, as the World Health Organisation did in 1992. It is estimated that 14 million people in Europe suffer from fibromyalgia and the condition is more prevalent with women (87% of total prevalence).

Margaret Receives 2008 Award For Volunteering Excellence

ImageMargaret Robson, the Co-ordinator and Chair of the Fibromyalgia Support Group (Medway), has received a Kent County Council Award for Volunteering Excellence, not only for her work in setting up and running the Medway Support Group for the last six years, but also for over 30 years of volunteering.  There were almost 600 nominations for awards in various categories and only 24 winners.

The Award Ceremony was held at the Ramada Hotel in Hollingbourne, near Maidstone in Kent on the 23rd November 2008. Not only did Margaret receive an Award but she was also given £400 to donate to a Charity of her choice, which was, naturally, the Fibromyalgia Support Group (Medway) that has over 300 members.

Polkadotgals Launch Party!
Launch Party for 2009 CalendarOn Saturday the 8th of November the Polkadotgals launched the first Polkadotgals calendar, to help raise awareness of Fibromyalgia, at the episode hotel in Leamington Spa, the event was hosted by Polkadotgals Director Bianca Embley and featured appearance's from Polkadotgals ambassador Danni Wells and Miss England 2008 Laura Coleman, who lent her support to the Polkadotgals on her way to the Miss World competion in Johannesburg.

Following a champagne and canapé reception, guests were able to bid on a number of items donated by generous celebrities including Helen Mirren and Raymond Blanc. The launch was held in association with UK Charity FMA UK. Following the success of the evening the calendar is NOW available to purchase through this site just click on order here! Part of the profits realised from the sale of the calendar will be pledged to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia.
